What Change Can You Make for Health?4 Minute Read
Sit and think for a second with me - Can you think of ONE thing that you could do RIGHT now that would make your body more healthy? I can guarantee that you said YES and you easily listed it out in your head. Or, if you are an overachiever, you listed several things that would make your body healthier right now!
You don’t need more information or another health guru telling you what you need to do. What you need is DEDICATION to your health. You need to make a commitment, much like you need to accomplish anything of value in your life.
Why am I so confident in saying this? It’s because I talk to MYSELF first. This is something that I said to myself years ago and that is what has saved my life.
Let’s first talk about why getting healthy can be so difficult...
How did we end up in this position?
Honestly, our mindset about health is completely wrong. It is what we have been taught and how our current healthcare system works.
We are #1 in the US for rates of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and surgeries. Not surprisingly, we are also #1 for healthcare spending.
We are the sickest because we have been taught that a pill or a medication is the answer to our chronic health problems.
Based on the amount of money and how much knowledge we have, the US should be the healthiest country. But, we are not! Now, don’t get me wrong, we are #1 in emergency medicine and our healthcare workers do an amazing job.
It is our MINDSET that needs changing!
How should we approach healthcare?
I urge you to focus on a more functional medicine approach to your health. In all of my practices, I approach your health as:
- Health oriented
- Patient centered
- Focusing on the underlying causes of disease, not just the symptoms
- Preventative approach
We can’t just treat symptoms using medication without also looking at the underlying cause of WHY.
What can you do to be healthier?
Think about that one thing you thought of at the beginning of the article that you KNOW will make you healthier. DO THAT THING!
Make a commitment to yourself and your health. It doesn’t have to be a huge change all at once. Make a small commitment TODAY - are you going to walk for 10 minutes a day? Can you put down on the amount of soda that you are drinking? Can you make a commitment to being grateful each day?
Making a commitment to ourselves is the most powerful thing we can do for our health!
